Solomon was the son of King David who became the wisest and wealthiest king in Israel's history. He built the magnificent temple in Jerusalem and wrote much of the wisdom literature in the Bible.

"So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong."

1 Kings 3:9

Significance

Solomon's wisdom was legendary, and his reign represented the golden age of Israel. However, his later years showed how even the wisest can fall away from God through compromise.
